Being the parent of a child diagnosed with an eye disorder is a difficult challenge. We've heard from parents that little information is available on the Web to explain relatively common eye disorders, such as amblyopia and strabismus. We have compiled a number of resources to help parents understand these eye disorders. If you have any suggestions on how to improve these resources, please feel free to contact us directly. For Parents
Our resources, specifically for parents, include:
- Patient and Parent Guide to Strabismus Surgery - Developed by Drs. George Beauchamp and Paul Mitchell, this comprehensive guide to strabismus surgery answers some of the most frequently asked questions and provides a wealth of information from the experts themselves.
- Children's Eye Foundation Forum - This resource is designed to connect parents and clinicians to share their common experiences with eye disorders such as amblyopia and strabismus.
- Economic Analysis of the Consequences of Failure to Prevent Childhood Blindness from Amblyopia - Blindess in children takes tolls that are large and small, loud and quiet, but always regrettable. But much can be done to prevent childhood blindness from amblyopia. This document outlines the economic cost of failure to prevent blindness from amblyopia.
- Hear Stories - If you are a parent with a child affected by an eye disorder, it is important to know that you are not alone. We have collected a number of stories from parents and children in hopes that sharing them may help in your experience.
- Amblyopia 411 - Hearing that your child has amblyopia is a frightening thing. What makes it even more frightening is that few resources are available online to support parents during this difficult time. Amblyopia 411 assists parents by providing information about what to expect before, during and after treatment.
- Ambassadors Program - pediatric opthalmology positively impacts the lives of many children and parents. This program was developed to provide an opportunity for those parents and children to show their gratitude and help raise awareness about the need for early detection and treatment of eye disorders in children. We have divided the program into our Board of Ambassadors for parents interested in sharing their message and our little ambassadors for children.
- "I Care for Eye Care" Calendar Contest - One of the most popular Children's Eye Foundation programs is the "I Care for Eye Care" Calendar, where children around the world submit their vision of eye care. For the last few years, we requested that children submit their artwork, and a calendar was created from those entries. This year, we are asking for digital photographs that represent the slogan of the calendar, "It's a Beautiful Thing to See."

The Children's Eye Foundation makes it possible to ensure healthy eyes for children through our many and diverse programs. But we are only as successful as guaranteed by your support. We make your dollars work for the good of your children.
