Recognized as the founder of pediatric ophthalmology, Dr. Marshall M. Parks dedicated his life to improving vision care for children. No contemporary physician has had a greater impact on pediatric ophthalmology. A prolific writer, respected lecturer, and dedicated teacher, and as the founder of the Costenbader Society, Parks trained more than 160 of the world's leading pediatric ophthalmologists.
Parks Medal
An individual, group, or entity that has made noteworthy contribution(s) to the world of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus will be eligible to receive a Marshall M. Parks Medal from the Children's Eye Foundation, which was founded by Dr. Parks. Such contributions may involve basic research, clinical research, clinical care, educational activities, organizational activities, public health, or resource contributions.
The prize pays tribute to the extraordinary legacy of the Children's Eye Foundation founder, whose lifelong quest was expert eye care for children, the elimination of preventable blindness in them and continuous innovation in the care of strabismus.
Gold medal
The first and only Gold Medal was awarded to Dr. Parks in honor of his unique and immense contributions to the field of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. This is a singular honor and no further Gold Medals will be awarded. Dr. Parks is our gold standard.
Silver medal
Eligibility includes individuals, groups or entities that have made unusually significant and far-reaching contributions to science, understanding, or education in the field of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. The medal was initially minted in 2002. It is pediatric ophthalmology's equivalent of the Nobel Prize.
Bronze medal
Eligibility includes individuals, groups or entities that have demonstrated a sustained level of excellence in the field of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus through leadership, innovation, dedication, outstanding contribution and/or lifetime achievement.
