Audrey's Story
When Tim and his wife Venus discovered their four-month old daughter Audrey had been born with congenital, bilateral cataracts, they did not know what to expect. "We began to do research," Tim said, "and gradually came to the horrible realization that our perfect little baby girl might not be able to see."
But things began to look up as the family began their weekly visits to the pediatric ophthalmologist. Audrey, who had her first surgery at just five months old, had to undergo five surgeries, contact lenses, hourly eye drops, eye patches and glasses in order to correct her problem. If not corrected in time, this condition could have resulted in permanent blindness. But Tim tells us that Audrey, who is now a year and a half old, "can see as well as any other 18 month old!"
To show their gratitude, Tim and Venus reached out to the Children's Eye Foundation. The beautiful little Audrey, who can now see thanks to the expertise of the pediatric ophthalmology community, is one of the Children's Eye Foundation's Little Ambassadors. "I can't tell you how thankful I am for the advances that have been made in the field of pediatric ophthalmology," said Tim. "My wife and I try not to take it for granted that Audrey can see so well. I'm thrilled that I have the opportunity to say thanks to the pediatric ophthalmology community."
