Matthew’s Story

Like many young boys, Matthew loved sports. But as he grew, he had difficulty seeing because of strabismus, an eye condition that may reduce or cause loss of vision. His parents approached the Children's Eye Foundation for answers and discovered that 1 in 20 children in this country suffer because of strabismus.

Eventually, surgery was required. Matthew learned his hero, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart, also had surgery for strabismus as a child, affecting his entire future. In June 2008, the Children's Eye Foundation facilitated a meeting between Matthew and his hero, Matt Leinart. The two talked and played football for hours!

Matthew is a Little Ambassador and we tell his story to comfort those children affected by amblyopia, strabismus or other eye disorders.
