The Silver Marshall M. Parks, M.D. Medal honors outstanding contributions to children’s eye care.  The medal was initially minted in 2002.  It is pediatric ophthalmology’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize.

The prize pays tribute to the extraordinary legacy of the Children’s Eye Foundation Founder, Dr. Parks.  His lifelong quest was expert eye care for children, the elimination of preventable blindness in them and continuous innovation in the care of strabismus.

Lorenz E. Zimmerman, M.D. will be honored during the April 2008 meeting of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus.  During 2007 the Foundation was very proud to honor Dr. Torsten Wiesel, M.D., F.R.S. and David Hunter Hubel, M.D. for their combined research and subsequent shared Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine.  Silver Medals were awarded to ophthalmologists Arthur Jampolsky, M.D. and Gunter K. von Noorden, M.D. in 2006.

Bronze medals are awarded to past presidents of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus and other individuals who have made noteworthy contributions to children’s eye care.  We are proud to share that two board members of the Children’s Eye foundation were 2007 recipients of the Bronze Marshal M. Parks, M.D. Medal.
