And That’s a Wrap!
As the snow flies and the wind whirls, it is with a smile on our faces that we reflect on the wonderful week at ISA-AAPOS 2018 in Washington DC!
The Parks Medal Gala was a smashing success and a tradition that you will not want to miss next year! The Capitol Steps were hilariously entertaining, poking fun at everyone across the political spectrum, the medical profession, and the backwards talk skit left you with hope in your soul. Ha!
With teary eyes and warm hearts, AAPOS and ISA members gave a standing ovation after the video tribute to Dr. F. Daryel Ellis, the 2018 Marshall Parks Silver Medalist. You can watch it here, and visit the entire hall of fame to see the Legacy inductees, Drs. Burian, Bielschowsky, and Scobee, and the Parks Bronze Medalists, Drs. Richard A. Lewis and Robert E. Wiggins, Jr. Use the HP Reveal app on the photos for hidden extras!
CEF was proud to host 3 Miller Travel Grant recipients at ISA-AAPOS 2018, providing a career-changing opportunity for these pediatric ophthalmologists. Watch this short video to hear how the meeting helped them fine tune their skills and connect with other pediatric ophthalmologists and mentors, so they can take back new knowledge to share with peers and raise the standard of care in their home countries.
Thank you for dropping off your CEF survey at our booth. The results indicate that you want to hear more about the impact of our programs, so we promise to share more throughout the year! If you have not read our 2017 Report, download it here.
We are so happy that you appreciate our focus on sharing information and growing awareness about early vision screening and eye health. Many AAPOS members asked how to link their practice websites to our blog. Please feel free to share the link so every parent knows to Screen Eyes Early (SEE) and readily find a pediatric ophthalmologist to get the best care possible.
Our sponsors rock! We want to give them a shout out again, thank you to Flex Frames and Miraflex for sponsoring the Hall of Fame video, as well as iScreen, Good-lite, M&S Technology and all the others who have supported us over the years. We also met many wonderful new friends that provide products and services that improve the profession of pediatric ophthalmology. If you are interested in supporting CEF or know of a company that is, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org!
Bob Arnold’s hand-carved knife, Sherwin Isenberg’s underwater photos, Bob Enzenauer’s daughter’s paintings, Ginny Utz’s jewelry, as well as the painting by Elias Traboulsi and pottery by his wife Mayya Traboulsi were huge hits at the Silent Auction on Sunday night. Congrats to the winners and thank you all for supporting CEF!
AAPOS is always a special meeting for the people you see, the things you learn, the fun we have. At the end of the day, we gather here because we care about making a difference in the life of a child. Thank you Dr. Anu Ganesh for sharing this quote:
“A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove… but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”– Forest E. Witcraft
