Dr. Robert Gold has been in private practice as the senior pediatric ophthalmologist at Eye Physicians of Central Florida in Maitland and Orlando, Florida, since July of 1987.

Dr. Gold attended both undergraduate and medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans, followed by his internship at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Clinic and then his ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University, also in New Orleans. He participated in a pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus fellowship at the James Hall Eye Foundation and Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, before Orlando in 1987. Dr. Gold is on the staff of both the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital and Advent Health for Children in Orlando and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida School of Medicine. He is past president of the American Eye Study Club and is the current pediatrics and strabismus editor of Ocular Surgery News.  

Dr. Gold served on the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus as Secretary/Treasurer from 2016-2019 and has returned to the board in 2020 as the Vice President-Elect. His tenure on the Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Corporation began in 2011. He is currently a member of the Underwriting Committee board of directors and chair, a member of the Risk Management Committee. He serves as the chairman of OMIC’s Retinopathy of Prematurity Task Force.
